This is the third of five installments of our “CASE Scholar Senior Spotlight” featuring Autumn Black:
MU’s class of 2020 holds many outstanding graduates including our very own CASE Marketing Intern, Autumn Black. She has done exceptionally well throughout her college career and plans to take her degree in Convergence Journalism – Emerging Media to the next level.
After graduation, Black will work as an intern for CalMatters, a California publication focused on policy and politics. She also has aspirations to expand her brand and become an influencer.
“What I have right now is an internship with CalMatters and I want to eventually take on a full-time role. As time goes on it would be awesome to be a creative director and also have my own brand on the side where I’m able to utilize all the skills that I learned from my marketing disciplines and be able to also bring in the broadcast side again. I want to be my own brand and be able to influence people and essentially be a motivational speaker for lots of different things including women empowerment,” Black said.
While at MU, Black has participated in numerous organizations thanks in part to the Center for Academic Success & Excellence. As a CASE Diversity Scholar, she was able to get resources from the office that pushed her to strive for more.
“CASE had definitely influenced my time here at Mizzou. CASE was my first ever internship during my sophomore year of college and that really opened my eyes to all the different disciplines within marketing like social media and video. There’s just so much that you can do, and I really feel like CASE is what helped me hone in on what exactly it is that I want to do,” Black explained. “It also allowed me to take on more leadership roles in college and different organizations. The people in CASE have helped as well. I’ve met some great mentors through CASE and friends I have still today that have graduated.”
Black is the current Vice President of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), previously served as the Vice President of Communications on the Alumni Association Student Board, and is wrapping up her internship as the Senior Content Creator for the CASE Marketing team.
Although we are sad to be losing such an invaluable member of our staff, we know Ms. Autumn Black has a bright future ahead. We cannot wait to see what’s next. Congrats on all your success and what’s to come.
