Thanksgiving Break Guide

For the students who are spending Thanksgiving in Columbia, here are some resources for meals and fun activities during break.

Free and Discounted Thanksgiving Meals

  • On Campus:
    • Thanksgiving Dinner Cooking Live Demo Grocery Kit Handout (Tuesday, Nov. 24, 11 AM-1 PM)
      • Stop by The Shack to pick up free grocery kits that serve two or four people. The Campus Activities Programing Board (CAPB) is hosting Chef Eric on Wednesday, Nov. 25 (6 PM) in a live demo that will explain how to make a Thanksgiving meal with the kit (yes, dessert is included!). On Thursday, you can recreate the dishes for you and your friend(s).

    • Free Thanksgiving Dinner (Thursday, Nov. 26, 11 AM-2PM)
      • Join Campus Dining Services and the Division of Student Affairs for a Thanksgiving dinner that is free to all students at Plaza 900.

  • Off-Campus:
      • Everybody Eats Thanksgiving Basket/Meal
        • Baskets: Individuals and households can pick up the baskets of food on Monday and Tuesday (Nov. 23-24) at Columbia’s Russell Chapel AME Church.
        • Meal: Almeta Crayton’s Everyone Eats Thanksgiving dinners for those less fortunate at the Columbia Senior Center on Thanksgiving day will be served as a drive-through. However, if you do not have a car, volunteers told KRCG13 that they will work with those who walk-up to the serving location.

 

Activities during the break

  • Activity Kit Handout (Monday, Nov. 23 and Tuesday, Nov. 24 from 11 AM to 1 PM, while supplies last)
    • Stop by the Shack to pick of CAPB’s biggest Activity Kit this year, which includes the materials to make a painting, handmade Thanksgiving decorations, and even a stuffed-animal. Snacks and games are included.

  • Home Alone Screening (Tuesday, Nov. 24, at 2 PM and again at 4 PM)
    • Join CAPB for two showings of the Christmas classic, Home Alone, in The Shack and Leadership Auditorium in the MU Student Center.

  • Thanksgiving GooseChase mission (Begins at Noon on Wednesday Nov. 25 and ends at Midnight after Thanksgiving)
    • Join CAPB in an online “running scavenger hunt-style mission” that celebrates fall, community and tradition from around the world. Download the FREE GooseChase App and use the secret code 8Z7RLP to play!

  • Small Business Saturday Deals on @StuffToDoAtMU Social Accounts (Saturday, Nov. 28, 9 AM-5 PM)
    • The @StuffToDoAtMU social media team will be posting local deals for students offered by businesses surrounding campus. Follow their social accounts for deals and ideas!
